A general dentist, or family dentist, is licensed by the state to practice in all areas of dentistry. There are certain dental conditions that may require treatment by a specialist, however, a general dentist can treat nearly all of the common dental diseases and disorders, and he or she can refer you to a specialist, if necessary.

By performing a complete general dentistry examination, a dentist can determine your current oral health and determine what is needed to improve your oral health and wellness. A complete dental examination will identify all active conditions that are or may cause deterioration of your oral health.

• X-rays
