A general dentist, or family dentist, is licensed by the state to practice in all areas of dentistry. There are certain dental conditions that may require treatment by a specialist, however, a general dentist can treat nearly all of the common dental diseases and disorders, and he or she can refer you to a specialist, if necessary.
By performing a complete general dentistry examination, a dentist can determine your current oral health and determine what is needed to improve your oral health and wellness. A complete dental examination will identify all active conditions that are or may cause deterioration of your oral health.
If you have children, it is important that your family dentist practices pediatric dentistry to help your entire family maintain the highest degree of oral health and comfort. Making dental health a family priority will help your family avoid painful periodontal diseases and ensure ongoing dental health.
Fostering early dental health awareness in your family will also help your loved ones avoid poor dental habits which, if unchanged, can lead to dental diseases that are difficult or even impossible to fully reverse and correct. Problems found in some patients are much too severe and have gone too long without attention to be reversed and expect a complete return to ideal dental health.
When you have a general examination at Young Family Dental, we will usually perform the following procedures:
The exact steps taken during your examination may vary depending on your particular needs.
